The Ibero-American Institute
(and the New State Library)
The Ibero-American Institute (IAI) is an interdisciplinary centre for academic and cultural exchanges between Germany and Latin America, the Caribbean, Spain and Portugal. It is home to the largest European library specialized in the Ibero-American region and also a place of knowledge, exchange and cultural translation. Combining an information, research and cultural centre, the IAI is both a platform for cooperation and a catalyst for intercultural and transcultural dialogue. Founded in 1930, the IAI is located in the Kulturforum on Potsdamer Straße. Since 1962 the institute has been part of the Stiftung Preußischer Kulturbesitz (Prussian Cultural Heritage Foundation).
